  • 308Uaint · 1 year ago
hey beannie, yeah, thanx if you can get rid/move it (it's still there as i posts this), maybe zee, myself, and ski are the only three who see it?? It is the orange Voxant ad, seems to carry over from the homepage into the comments section and stick itself right over the posting area perfectly. as well as the 3 or 4 newest comments... using a PC, weird.
  • barry · 1 year ago
No ,you guys are not the only one's seeing a
pop-up come in over the comments section.
I'm getting adds for Di-Tech, NetFlix, etc. Very
strange as it does'nt even have a "close-out"
    X. This must have started in the last 24 HRS,
never seen it before. Had to use another's
"reply button to leave this message.
  • beanieville · 1 year ago
It's definately not coming from this blog. I think you folks should set your browsers to block pop-ups. I already told the wife not to do any popups and she said she didn't. I got no problems here, even on my older PC.
  • beanieville · 1 year ago
There are no oragne voxant ad, as far as i can tell.
  • beanieville · 1 year ago
Now i think you folks are really seeing ghosts. lolol
  • richard · 1 year ago
hey i still have that netflix thing even with pop-ups disabled i can't even comment because of it!
  • 308Uaint · 1 year ago
    STP
Suntech expects to have 2 gigawatts of production capacity by 2010 (+100% fom 2008 forecast)

just came in on the wires.
  • sunfun · 1 year ago
where do u see that i don't see it anywhere..

corn futures are pointing down..so better to short Ag stocks in the morning..

also solar may rise a bit..oil is moving up
  • barry · 1 year ago
What 30uaint described is exactly how I'm seeing
this pop up thing. I have my p/u blocker on but I
know some can be designed to be sent thru
unblockable anyway. guess I'll see if it's still
    happening tmrw. Thanx.

    Cramer on EMC:

EMC Corporation (EMC) was cited as internationally they have up to 45% of sales here in the storage hardware sales. They have a new memory that uses less energy as well. The reason to own is the stake in VMware Inc. (VMW) they have. This was spun off last summer and it is a month away from being free of its six month lockup period so EMC can sell shares. The numbers given bear this out. Since the end of October EMC is down 35% but they have been "overlooked and mistreated for far too long."
  • fortune8 · 1 year ago
z -- you are working way too hard again.

I think you will owe me a latte for this.

To go to beanie's sight without going through all the adds at blogspot.com use this link.

    http://beanieville.disqus.com

The only drawback is that you don't get to see the adds, the pretty girl, or every thing beanie says.

But then, do you ever listen to anything beanie says?
  • fortune8 · 1 year ago
    The same for zstock

Note that i will be buying back my longer term positions this week, as indicated before.

We are very oversold in the short term.

Please note that these two picks are for an intraday (day) trade . Most likely i will be out of my JASO short when the traders fade the stock in the early morning.
  • fortune8 · 1 year ago
Do you folks know why I even consider short JASO?

    http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=JASO&p=D&yr=0&...

Take a look at the 1-month chart above and hopefully you will see it.

You are not very intelligent and wanted to show you know nothing.
  • fortune8 · 1 year ago
I jus thope you people who are new to shorts keep a tight stop because you can have infinite loss.

    That's right, infinte loss !!!

Just a month ago, scibby was calling top on solars and you think he was crazy.

Now he is calling market bottom and you want to short all the way.

This market will bounce hard one day because of all the newb shorts, trying to make a quick dollar, will have cover in panic on the way up just as they did on the way down.

Don't you know that your emotion can sometime be the best contra-indicator?

DETROIT, Jan 13 (Reuters) - General Motors Corp (GM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) sales in North America have been tracking ahead of last year so far in January, supported by demand for the Chevrolet Malibu and Cadillac CTS, GM's North American sales chief said on Sunday.

"The first couple of weeks of January were pretty good," Mark LaNeve said. "We're tracking ahead of last January; in fact, we are tracking ahead of the last two Januaries."

Where is that so called recession, stagflation, depression?
  • TV107 · 1 year ago
cmon beanie...short FSLR now after you said buy Friday morning
you're gonna be wrong both times

while I hate solar valuations, we arent going to see any significant markdowns until Oil cracks 80 or they blow up on earnings
  • beanieville · 1 year ago
It's just for a daytrade. I think FSLR stays above 200.
  • TV107 · 1 year ago
well reflecting again, maybe beanies right with JASO

i say short jaso and buy fslr as a pairs trade for 2-3 days

    troy,

Good info. Thanks. Do not forget Japan will reach 30% residentials with solar panels. America will catch up to be a solar leader in 10 years. Now leader are Germany and Japan. this year in china, Olympic sportives' hot water is going to be powered by the solars.
  • troyhouse · 1 year ago
Does anyone believe in OptionPain, according to the site www.optionpain.com, AAPL goes to 140 on option expiration date on Jan 18...

    Can this really happen?
  • lisa · 1 year ago
    troy,

Thank you for useful information. I checked a lot of stocks the prices are much lower than now. That means the markets will tank big?
  • lisa · 1 year ago
I checked FSLR on that site, it's $230. SPWR $75. Maybe SPWR is better candidate to short. SPWR profit margin is only 3.5%. Who will pay even $75 for that stock?
  • scibby · 1 year ago
it does not always work... it worked welll with CROX when it peaked at $75 (and i was on the losing side as I did not know how to use that tool).

It worked great for my DRYS short, for the LDK short just before earnings... and also on my CSIQ short....

but it made me lose money on STP too. So it is not 100% foolproof tool. But it can help you spot the direction.

Remember more than not in many times 80% of options expire worthless or close to worthless.
  • barry · 1 year ago
    Troyhouse,

In the trading environment we are currently in,
AAPL certainly "could" go much lower. 140
sounds a little extreme by Jan's opt exp date
    of the 18th,but who knows?OPTIONPAIN.COM
is another new website for me so thanx for that.
I"m gonna look at. I might even try an APPL 160
PUT tmrw especially if we rally in the morning.
Going for about 8.75. If appl were to hit 140...
you'd triple your money. Something to look at in
    the morning....Thanx again.
  • barry · 1 year ago
By the way Troy ,that would be a FEB aapl

Yingli Green Energy tgt raised to $65 at Piper Jaffray (34.57 ) -Update-

Piper Jaffray raises their tgt on YGE to $65 from $20 as they see co as a long-term winner in solar with low-cost leadership, high-quality (and reputation) production, with low polysilicon supply risk near term. Its capacity expansion with wholly owned subsidiary supports strong earnings power in 2009 and beyond, in firm's view. FIrm has confidence in YGE's 2008 polysilicon supply through contracts (70% contracted) and market purchases from existing suppliers. They est 2009E proforma EPS of $2.63 with upside likely supported by additional manufacturing expansion that may be announced

GE to Double investment in renewable energy

Diversified conglomerate General Electric Co. (GE.N) will on Monday announce plans to double its investments in renewable energies to $6 billion by 2010, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.

The financial arm of GE believes that within two years alternative sources such as wind and solar power will account for almost a quarter of its total investments in energy and water, up from 10 per cent in 2006, the paper reported.

Alex Urquhart, chief executive of GE's energy financial services unit, which has total assets of more than $16 billion, told the Financial Times that renewable energy was the division's fastest-growing business, the paper said.

I have never shorted any stocks so far, I will start maybe with FSLR and MA. FYI, on 1-15-2008 there will be solar conference in China. You guys may wait to see a little how the stocks go. Short them after them gap up. TUE, finance sector has earning out it may bring whole market down. It could also have emergercy rate cut if things go to bad. Mostly maybe on Friday expiration day. In Feb, there will be a solar conference in LAS.

For the short term traders (those who are ready to hold for a few weeks) I recommend you to buy stocks pre-earnings run-up.

Also i invite you to read an article on cnn

    http://money.cnn.com/2008/01/13/markets/bc.wall...

very interesting conclusion.... read the last 2 paragraphs.

    Good evening.
  • lisa · 1 year ago
    scibby,

I follow your opinions now after you correctly call peak in solars. I think your analysis is logical and based on the data instead of the emotions. Thank you.
  • scibby · 1 year ago
read this book.... Jesse Livermore - Reminiscenes of a stock operator by Edwin Lefevre and Richard Smitten - Trade Like Jesse Livermore.

If you do a search on wikipedia you can find them as pdfs. They have helped me a lot shape my ideas.

The first book I read every year, the second book I read twice in the past 3 months, there is a lot of repetition in it, but every time you read it you learn something new.

One more thing, its not the individual stocks that you need to check. Learn how to spot market turns and learn how to find the direction of the market and trade with it, 90% of the stocks move with the market, so you really can't go wrong.

In my opinion now the market needs to go back up so its risky to short now (there was plenty of time to short the market before). Obviously don't follow too many opinions on this or any other board, learn to make your own. And stop watching CNBCs analysts - they are all their to sell their stocks (consider them as telemarketers - experts don't divulge their tricks to the public).

The problem with comparing stock market performance in the 1990-1991 recession and the current slowdown (2008 recession?) is that the 1990-1991 stock market performance was highly influenced by the Gulf War against Iraq. The market traded down until January 2001 when the war ended so quickly against Iraq, and then it rallied hard as investor anxiety was releaved by the quick resolution of the war. What I'm trying to say is that the recession in 1990-1991 is not a good model to use. Perhaps 1982's recession market would be a better model to compare against.
  • lisa · 1 year ago
This recession can not have any refrences because subprim crisis. Housing market can not recover overnight and will not bottom until 2009. there is futher 30% decline in housing accotding to the report. if there is no election this year the markets have already crashed hard. Still up to today we do not know what is the real number in finanial institutes' books. At least we should give 10-15 years to see the finance to recover.
  • Rock_nj · 1 year ago
The one thing I leanred (the hard way) in the Year 2000 tech bubble burst, which lasted three to four years, is that the markets can fall a lot further than most people realize. The NASDAQ fell 75% from the peak in 2000 to the trough in 2003. Of course, back then valuations were extremely high and today they are a lot more reasonable and actually close to historic norms.

I think the prudent thing with the faltering economy and the Presidental election is stay light in the U.S, market until the summer and buy back in on a lazy August day if things look good for 2009. August is a typical lowpoint for the market.
  • fortune8 · 1 year ago
One thing that you failed to mention that is different between the dot com bubble and now is the relative PE of the market.

Notice that had you invested in the NASDAQ in 2000, then you still have not recovered you loss. This is why buy and hold can be flawed.
  • Rock_nj · 1 year ago
How did I fail to mention the relative PE of the market?

Of course, back then valuations were extremely high and today they are a lot more reasonable and actually close to historic norms.

Back then is the 2000 tech bubble. The market was way overvalued and like theory predicts it came back to reasonable valuations and lost 75% of its value in the process. That is not the case right now. Valuations are reasonable across the broader stock market. Any further drop will be caused by decreasing earnings due to an economic slowdown, not a market bubble. The market should snap back strongly once the economy turns, whenever that is.

Remember this (I have read this somewhere online) - the market is a zero (0) sum gain, you think the market is getting wealthier as volume grows but in reality it is all paper profit. Real profits are made at the expense of someone's else losses. That is, when transactions are concluded... i.e. if i am long, if i make a profit, someone has taken my shares and will make a loss (if the price goes down).

You folks who are pumping fertilizers, please give us an idea what inning we're in in that bull market. I personally just have a feeling that nobody but traders care about fertilizers as long term investments, and Cramer of course.
  • fortune8 · 1 year ago
growing country have to eat and agriculture is the way.

with that said, I think the sector might be headed for a correction since this is the only sector that has not corrected in this market.

tech got hit, solars got hit and it is only a matter of time before ag gets hit.

the only ag I now own is MOO (etf) and may I add, it is kicking the sh*t out of PBW !!!
  • sunfun · 1 year ago
F8 if u are so bullish on Ag , i don't know why you told me to sell MOS call...

  • fortune8 · 1 year ago
    sun,

I am bullish long term, but short term correction is possible. You should know that I buy and trade AGU pretty frequently and that I did not hold. MOO will give me more diversification.

Given the time and circumstance, it was what I would have done had I own the calls.
  • beanieville · 1 year ago
I personally do not like fertilizers, same goes with dryshippers. Every beat of my heart is telling me that once the traders leave these stocks, they will eventually deflate into oblivion, because nobody really cares for them as long term investments.
  • fortune8 · 1 year ago
