My take on th mareket for what it's worth:
    * 2350 +/- ........... soft landing scenario with the wkly 200 ma as support.
    * 2100 +/- ........... system target.

    * 1925 ............... H/S target.

Take your pick. Scenario # 1 retains the 3100 + target to the upside...... Scenario # 3 would clean up all " bad behavior " anomalies. Scenario # 2 is a basic guideline target at this point. Ultimately we have to watch and see what happens where, so till then one has to respect the bear view till we get some kind of a bottom.

earlier this week, I felt that if we continue down from 2400, the bears will almost certainly exhaust themselves and we could see a trend changing reversal print of 2300 or so, although it would take a couple weeks to play out..........while not the most probable scenario I reccomend not to fully discount it. If we moved up from there, the indicators can reset and with over head resistance sitting betwix 2580 - 2600, we would be presented with an excellent opportunity to sell this market..................this scenario favors the BEAR and all but eliminates a 2300 bottom.

    * so the question is : BEAR or no BEAR ?...........guess we'll find out soon enough, becasue today we saw bear exhaustion..........if today or tommorrow's low gives way to a bounce, then we look for divergence.

    * exhaustion + divergence = reversal

and ultimately, today's TA is indicating the "soft-landing" scenario lives...

    K.I.S.S.

Go apple, eveyone use GWB'S rebate to buy a mac air or iphone, my wife can't live w/o hers and now ALL the yenta's want one..lol..

  • SolarFan · 1 year ago
lol, last hour dropped 300+ points, how can you say bear exhaustion?
  • johnny appleseed · 1 year ago
    lol..at what?

I look at the weekly's...and today to me signals bear exhaustion...doessn't mean it's the bottom, we may gap down or trade down at some point, but my system tells me today was exhaustive, now I look for divergance, what would you call bear exhaustion, a 300 point UP day??lol..
    vix is also telling...

    Bounce tomorrow?
  • scibby · 1 year ago
The market is stupid, the market is playing games with us, wants us nervous to bail out at the bottom... The market feels that it wants to rally, yet it is too fearful, too sensitive.

Pity I have been saying to myself bottom for the past two days, and if I stayed out would have saved my ass from MELI's hammering.

Anyway, that will be over soon as MELI will be way over 50 tomorrow... so a loss is never a loss until you sell (likewise a profit)....

basically my take for the market tomorrow is that we are in for a huge rally.... look at IBM... how stupid, they already released earnings on Monday, today there was no new news yet the stock is rallying, meaning that the stocks are oversold at these levels...

Furthermore, we are just below 20% correction which would signal a bear market, and I dont think MMs want that to happen, it would be too close to the last bear market.

Thirdly tomorrow is options expirations day... just recall the market tanking in August and rebounding heavily on August 17, 2007. Revisit Yahoo Finance historical closes for the preceding 10 trading days for the ^ixic or the ^gspc - you will see that in August the market tanked 10% in a very short time and the August 17 options expiration signalled a change in trend.

Look at the new shortie newbies, they will cover hard tomorrow as they get fried... they will help with demand for shares!

Reason 5, in the last two days volume was tremendous, i saw 3bn+ on the nasdaq and 5bn+ on the nyse, something that I have never seen since I have been following volume movements in the last year.

Another reason to rally is that most of the new leaders have not fallen today or have not breached their recent lows....
  • fortune8 · 1 year ago
    scibby,

Stop saved my arse on MELI and I can still buy below where I got out. Why do you think MELI over 50 tmr because i want to buy it back.

I know there have been newbie shorties, but they have been winning by sticking to the trend. The trend is your friend.

I agree with the huge volume. I was thinking either capitulation or death.

Bernanke's comments that a fiscal stimulus package "could be helpful in principle" but that it must be temporary and enacted quickly is "a far cry...from (former Fed Chairman Alan) Greenspan's absurd speech in 2001 when he effectively urged huge tax cuts to prevent a massive surplus arising," said Ian Shepherdson, chief U.S. economist at High Frequency Economics.
"There is inherently nothing new" in Bernanke's comments, which is why the dollar returned to previous levels over the course of his testimony, said Geoffrey Yu, foreign exchange strategist at UBS in Zurich. Bernanke's remarks that the Fed isn't concerned with a major moral hazard reaffirm that the Fed "will move rates as much as they believe is necessary and is allowed for the market without precipitating a new housing bubble," he said. "He's being very cautious about this stimulus package, but at the same time being very forthright about the condition of the U.S. economy."

Fisher cautioned market participants that unwelcome developments on the inflationary front could ultimately temper his desire to cut interest rates, and reiterated that as much as the Fed wants to get ahead of the curve, it won't abandon the prudent conduct of monetary policy. Ê "In providing the monetary conditions for employment growth, we must not also sow the seeds of inflation that will eventually choke off the very employment growth we seek to encourage," Fisher said.
Ê Fisher also said he has "no intention of being party to any action that might shake faith in the dollar." Ê The official also cautioned financial market participants that any steps the Fed has taken and may take in the future aren't aimed at bailing out investors from bad bets. Instead, monetary policy is aimed at supporting the total economy, of which Wall Street is only a part, he said.

NTERVIEW-China's LDK Solar sees 2008 profit up a third

SHENZHEN, China, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Solar wafer maker LDK Solar Co Ltd (LDK.N: Quote, Profile, Research) expects its net profit to exceed $200 million this year, about a third higher than the company's forecast for net profit of more than $150 million in 2007, its chief financial officer said on Thursday.

The company, based in China's central province of Jiangxi, aims to quadruple its wafer production capacity to 1,600 megawatts by 2009 from 400 megawatts now to meet robust demand.

You notice that I don't call market bottom or markt top.

I only give you support and resisance to play with.

Now all the pundits are trying to call the bottom on solars.

Look what happened to DRYS and the fundamental of the company is a lot better than solars.

And don't tell me there's no growth in DRYS because they are projected to earn $15/share in Dec 2008,

But I forgot one thing. Recession is coming and so countries will not need as much commodities and BDI is dropping.

However, solars will still continue to fly because everyone wants and need solars. The price will never drop because demand is so much higher than supplies.

PLEASE !!! Give me a break. Can we be more objective?

My stocks, your stocks, everyone's stocks is going to take a beating. It's only a matter of time.

Even beanie who does not know ag is shorting it.
  • TO · 1 year ago
What the hedge funds have done to dry bulk should be a lesson to everyone ,especially in high P/E stocks. If the market doesn't turn around then Solars could have significant more downside. Why, because it's easy money for hedge funds in this market environment.

Worse mistake you can make is averaging down on broken stocks.

Watch the video and visit tradermike's blog.

He also has a trend table for short, intermediate, long term trend and they having been down and are still down.

I like tradermike because he is a no BS person. Just post charts and mark them up with want he thinks.

Look at MOO, PBW, SLX eft since they will give you more diversification. And if you think the market has bottomed then load them up. But if it was my money, I would only be adding 10% at a time which means you will be able to add 9 more times.

I see all these posts where people buy more and more of a stock going down. Where are they getting all this money or were they 100% in cash? How much are they buying each time, 1 share?

Even my money tree does not grow that fast and lately I been using 2x Miracle Grow.

    from fast money

Agriculture stocks, the last bastions of the bull market, took heavy losses Wednesday. What does it mean when the last thing working, rolls over?

You can’t hide in these stocks, says Jeff Macke, and keep your gains. I suspect ag stocks like Monsanto (MON) are probably going to roll over in a hard way.

I agree adds Karen Finerman. We’ve only seen a tiny bit of selling in the ag names. I don’t think it’s even started yet.

I think most of the valuations are crazy in this space, Guy Adami chimes in. If you want to play ag, check out Dupont (DD).

Or check out Anderson Inc (ANDE) adds Pete Najarian. Also I think you could play Monsanto short and Mosaic (MOS) long.

dont understand why you would short MON then long MOS if you think ag is going to fall then why would MOS keep going up
  • beanieville · 1 year ago

  • beanieville · 1 year ago
Looks like the market is gonna gap higher , based on the futures. The chart indicates the stock is oversold the last hour. It should gap higher and possibly rally a little bit in the morning after the open. I think it will get stuck at 115-117.

Solar: Thomas Weisel sees the recent sell off in the solar complex as an opportunity to build positions

Thomas Weisel sees the recent sell off in the solar complex as an opportunity to build positions in high quality names. In particular, firm suggests investors take a closer look at MEMC (WFR) and Suntech (STP). WFR remains firm's top pick for 2008 due to the attractive multiple, low semi expectations, and solid cash flow profile. STP is an industry heavyweight with solid supplier relationships and is positioned to post improving gross margins. Firm believes the solar sector is viable long term, just as other commodity technology markets like disk drives and DRAM are, and the pull back in shares in recent weeks across the board presents an opportunity for investors to visit top notch names. Firm came away most impressed with STP, Canadian Solar, and LDK.

AAPL overnite daytrade is now a success. You're now on your own; i can't really tell ya when to take profits. You can sell premarket, at the open, 30 minutes after the open, or you can wait and see what happens throughout the day. It does have the potential to get to the high 160 on a decent market rally.
  • beanieville · 1 year ago
i also called SPWR as an overnite daytrade and it is getting decimated. We can never foresee downgrades or upgrades. Just have to swallow it up. Hopefully it bounces the first 30 minutes.
  • beanieville · 1 year ago
it's now at 88. you can take the loss here, or let the stock trade for 30 minutes after open and see what happens. Up to you. The loss could get bigger or smaller.

Fed Bernanke: Fiscal Stimulus May Be 'Helpful In Principle'Last update: 1/17/2008 10:00:00 AMBy Brian Blackstone and Tom Barkley Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on Thursday endorsed a "quickly" implemented fiscal stimulus package, saying it would complement the Fed's efforts to provide monetary-policy insurance against an economic downturn. In prepared testimony to the House Budget Committee, Bernanke also repeated the pledge he made last week to enact "substantive" rate cuts if needed to counter the threat to the economy posed by fragile financial markets and weakening employment. Those remarks were widely interpreted to mean that the Fed would reduce its short-term interest-rate target, probably by half a percentage point from its current 4.25%, at the central bank's next meeting, Jan. 29-30. It has already lowered the fed funds rate 100 basis points since September. Recent data, including a steep rise in unemployment and decline in retail sales, have supported that view, though in the Fed's latest Beige Book assessment of economic conditions released Wednesday the central bank signaled the economy is slowing but not contracting. The latest jobless claims data also suggest last month's jobs report may have overstated the weakness in the economy. Bernanke, whose remarks on the economy and monetary policy largely mirrored last week's speech, also repeated that the Fed is "prepared to act in a decisive and timely manner and, in particular, to counter any adverse dynamics that might threaten economic or financial stability." He also reiterated that downside growth risks have become more pronounced. Housing, he said, will probably subtract more than one percentage point from gross domestic product growth in the fourth quarter and "may continue to be a drag on growth for a good part of this year as well." But he stressed that the Fed is still keeping a close eye on inflation and inflation expectations. Core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices "has stepped up recently," Bernanke said, due to the pass-through effects of energy costs, the weakening dollar and higher prices for financial and medical services. But overall and core inflation should moderate this year and next, he said. Thursday's remarks included an extensive discussion of fiscal stimulus, a topic Bernanke has avoided publicly until now. "I agree that fiscal action could be helpful in principle, as fiscal and monetary stimulus together may provide broader support for the economy than monetary policy actions alone," he told lawmakers. Congressional leaders from both parties have met in recent days to craft an economic stimulus package, though specific plans vary. The expected tab is expected to be in the $100 billion range. Fiscal stimulus is OK, Bernanke said, as long as it is "implemented quickly and structured so that its effects on aggregate spending are felt as much as possible within the next 12 months or so." He stressed that any stimulus be "explicitly temporary" given that the U.S. faces "daunting long-run budget challenges associated with an aging population, rising health-care costs, and other factors." Bernanke has in the past repeatedly warned lawmakers of the budgetary effect of rising entitlement spending as the roughly 78-million-strong Baby Boom generation retires and collects Social Security and Medicare benefits.

  • beanieville · 1 year ago
I change some, like buying more variety of solars, is because they appear so cheap to me. lol. Which means i'll have to buy less of the original list when i go shopping.
  • sunfun · 1 year ago
GOOG will be under 600 very soon
  • sunfun · 1 year ago
i don't know why people still buying...pic is right there..economy is too bad..we all have to go to China and India for jobs..
  • bjc · 1 year ago
But look at the market PE. Everything is so cheap..so say we do go in a recession, the market will start rising by the time its half over because everything is so damn cheap. And lets face it, a slightly weak US economy isn't going to affect a Chinese mobile provider...or a Russian one. I think there are a lot of stocks that have gotten undeservedly thwacked due to the US problems. I think those are the ones to buy.

CTrades, we always seem to like the same stocks. I love CSIQ and went long SEED the other day..first bought at 11 then some at 9.65 so my average is probably around 10.50. Sucks to be in the hole almost 20% but I like this one to have a big move sometime. It sucks all the big ag names are falling so it will take some momo away from SEED but I think they have a legit business. With food inflation like this there isn't going to be any shortage of people wanting to buy premium seeds. We shall see I suppose.

This has been a brutal 08, I've lost about 30%. I killed it in 07 but damn...would've been nice to protect more of that profit.
  • CTRADES · 1 year ago
I think CSIQ has a great future! Its my favorite stock for 08. I think earnings and guidence in march will be awesome.
SEED i like just for a trade. This market has killed its rally. I also would
love to see TNH get its ass kicked to around 90. Its got huge growth still yo come i feel.
Good luck cause thats what we need right now!
  • fortune8 · 1 year ago
We are not going to India for jobs. But I would like to go to Vietnam for jobs. Hell Yeah !!!

bjc is right, the market PE is very reasonable here. But it does not mean it cannot get any cheaper.

Remember, it's not what you make, but what you keep.
  • fortune8 · 1 year ago
    beanie,

I am not worried. As a matter of fact, I have LDK and CROX (if you believe that crap) for my daughter's account. So this mean the stock has 10 years to go bankrupt when she turns 18.

The thing is that you have a lot of followers and they buy based on your action.

Some times you leave them in the dust because what you buy for long term all of a sudden gets dump the next day.
  • beanieville · 1 year ago
Like i said, when i make a long term buy it means i like the stock for the long term. I may temporarily park it in cash if i think the market is headed down but make no mistake about it, if those stocks i like goes down hard, i like em even more and will eventually buy them back. My investment thesis hasn't changed for solars.
  • barry · 1 year ago
Well Doc,I even I dont see a 40% correction like we
had in '01,that would be all the way down to 8500 ,
but 20% here is very possible and that takes us down
to approx 11300.And Doc I know you know, and now
Sunfun knows...that does'nt have to be a bad thing for

17-Jan-08 08:11 ET In Play Expect positive Q4 earnings surprises for ag chemical co's - Citi : Citigroup expects the ag chemicals group to meet consensus expectations, with the potential for meaningful earnings upside in CF and TRA. Firm says the steep sell-off in fertilizer stocks yesterday may simply reflect profit-taking or more ominous macro signals, but they see the fertilizer markets running on a different cycle than the broader economy and do not expect any deterioration in demand or pricing for 1H08. CF remains top-pick; they are also positive on AGU and TRA, while neutral on MOS and POT.

On a side note, Republicans may insist stimulus includes extended tax breaks, knowing it will stall Democrat support, 'causing more drops in market as they fight it out in Congress. Remember, Clinton, Inc. won on "It's the economy stupid" last time the Dems won prez, so Rep strategy may be to get the indexes to the bottom quickly. After all, that's where stocks are the strongest . . .

From Trader-Briefing.....FYI I played 4 solar shorts and 1 long today. Covered the shorts on the rush thru the S&P support. I never hold much overnight though.....Nice play on MON, Bean. BTW, WFR has a little gap close 20 cents below the LOD. I love da WFR. Looking for a great trade on that and STP.

The RSI-14 in the SPY is looking to close below the "oversold" 30-level today. This has occurred 16 times since Jan 2000. Buying the Close and Covering the Next Day's Close has resulted in an Average Gain of over +0.50%. Covering into the Close 2 days later, resulted in a 13 wins, 3 losses; with an Average Gain of approx +1.25%, Avg Loss of -0.45%. Note there's no guarantee of this as the market could still open lower tomorrow or flat and then move lower, but the odds seem to favor some upside tomorrow. Combined with finally seeing a spike in the VIX and price extending below its lower Daily Bollinger Band by more than 1.25 points the odds should increase even more.

I'd thought the 10 am drop was due to Bernanke's lack of money-bagging. But I've changed my opinion. At 10 am the Philadelphia Fed Survey was expecting to report a mere 1.3% drop in manufacturing. Instead, it was -21%!!! Manufacturing was supposed to be one of the strongest segments to the economy, since it could take advantage of a falling dollar, and offer an increase in exports -- freeing the manufacturing segment from the ills of a slowing economy at home. But to drop 20% in a month . . . I doubt we just found the bottom here.
". . . plans for hiring and investment spending could fall pretty quickly as the region's manufacturers assume a more defensive position." (written Jan 10th at http://www2.standardandpoors.com/portal/site/sp...

For your information I past this email for you.

Will the Plunge Protection Team Save the Market?

Last week, I said that the rubber has hit the road and that my Super Chart was, for the first time in nearly five years, a tad below my all-important Super Chart Keyline. Now, make no mistake about it, I take this very seriously when it happens because it happens so seldom, only 16 times since 1965.

In all the columns I have written, I have always told you that as long as the Super Chart Keyline holds trading activity above itself, I would not amend my outlook for the market. I also said that if we got a Major Market Turnaround (MMT) signal, all bets for the outlook I wrote about were off.

Well, that MMT has yet to finish off its signal. We are looking at the third week of work just a bit below the Super Chart Keyline and we will need to close three more weeks below the Keyline to get confirmation on the signal. It takes six consecutive weeks below the Keyline to “finish” (confirm) a signal. I will be keeping you up to date as the next three weeks progress. The potential implications are quite broad if the signal does occur, so be sure to stay tuned.

I had a friend call me yesterday about my Super Chart and his question was quite simple: Why does the Super Chart generate so few signals. Some of the services he uses will get a signal quite often, sometimes several in one year. Well, the answer to that is simple. I designed the Super Chart Keyline to tell me when there was a clear and undeniable shift in the major sentiment of investors.

The Super Chart will never get me out at the top or get me in at the bottom of any cycle. It is not built to do that. While I will never get the top 10 percent or the bottom 10 percent of any major move, I will consistently get the middle 80 percent of those major moves.

Those that want the other 20 percent have my blessing in trying to get it on a consistent basis. I have been at this for over 40 years and I have seen a lot of traders make a lot of claims about how to get that other 20 percent. But, most of them are not around today. However, the Super Chart is. I think that speaks for itself.

    Story continues below . . .

For the moment, the key support at 1370-80 on the S&P cash index is under attack. Whether it will hold or not is a big question. I can only tell you that the investors of the world are not snapping back like the buyers they were recently. Does that mean recession? Don’t know. I do know that we will have an answer very shortly, in three weeks to be exact.

I will be including my Super Chart in next week’s column, as there will only be two weeks until the signal finish at that point and the Super Chart should be telling us a lot by then. And remember that Jan. 29 is the Fed FOMC meeting and interest rates will be a prime subject until then.

And have you noticed how many analysts are now talking about the money supply action? You should. Dr. Bernanke is slowly being recognized as challenging all the sacred cows of the financial world by using money supply as his lead dog in meeting this weakness in the market.

Will it work? I suspect so, but none of us will really know until the event we are in is over. Should be fascinating. Stay tuned!

Now on to a matter I spoke to you about last week. I told you I would tell you of another interesting event that is part of this current market activity. I told you that something called the PPT might be of interest to you. Well, here is the scoop on the PPT. Its full name is Plunge Protection Team, a name invented by analysts like me to satisfy our need to have names for everything.

You need to know right up front that the actual existence of a PPT is not even provable. There is, of course, official denial by just about every government official that one can corral and ask the question, “Is there really a PPT?” So, read the following with that in mind.

Here is the story of the PPT as put together by many analysts that swear it does exist and has since the 1987 market crash. You may recall that the most outstanding feature of that 1987 crash was a one day drop of over 500 Dow points, and that was in the days when the Dow was in the 2500 range. So, that one day drop was HUGE, really huge!

Editor’s Note: Six Inflation — and Recession Proof — Stocks to Buy Now.

In the aftermath of this huge drop, the market makers that be — regulators all — decided that they would put in place protections against such an event in the future. They made new rules that if the Dow dropped by a pre-determined amount, the trading would be halted temporarily.

The idea was to allow traders to get their bearing for a moment while the markets stood still and hopefully to allow them to see that maybe the drop going on was being overdone, or some other such decision that might stop or slow the drop going on.

Well, all these rules were very public and talked about and a number of times the trigger for the halt to trading was actually pulled, as a few sell-offs did gain unusual momentum. Several times plunges were even averted and reversed by the use of the stop trade rules. The outcome of the temporary halts was almost like what the “powers that be” wanted.

But, many analysts felt that the halts by themselves did not satisfy many of the “powers that be.” It was rumored that somewhere in the bowels of some bank or brokerage or even in the Fed complex, there was a group empowered by the Fed (or some major government body) to buy into the market when it either looked shaky or when it might serve to “punish” the short sellers (those driving prices lower) by driving prices up against their positions.

Now this kind of activity is not anything really new. It has been done for years by governments that want to protect their currency. If the currency was selling too low, the banks or some government body so empowered by the subject country just entered the market and bought the currency of their country and the price of the currency stabilized or went up.

In this instance, however, the buying was not of a currency, but in the stock market. And the buying was done to accomplish the same thing that currency buying did — punish the short sellers. Now, let me repeat, you must realize that this kind of activity is not something that is openly authorized by anyone or any agency in government and they do deny that it exists. But, my chart models say different.

The construction of my intraday model charts is quite sensitive and shows any unusual patterns of trading and for some years I have been able to tell when the PPT looked to be in action. The most obvious PPT action occurred during the week of March 14, 2003. One day during this week the S&P jumped over 35 points in one single move. This in a market that was beaten down, churning, and directionless. The move proved pivotal and the stock market never went down again after that event.

I am sure that move hurt the short sellers, who for many months had been pretty much having things their way. And, when I took a look back on my charts at that time, the charts showed me that it appeared that for several months the PPT may well have been in action. But, it was the huge March move that seemed to exhaust the sellers and they just disappeared.

After that event, I noticed also that for the next 13-14 months whenever the market seemed directionless or being sold down, there would often be a sudden spurt and the market would jump considerably for no reason at all.

Editor’s Note: How to Beat the S&P 500 by More Than 1,800%.

I also noticed that the pattern of the jumps was almost exactly the same each time. First, there would be a fast jump of 3-5 points up in the S&P followed by maybe a five minute period of sideways movement. Then, there would be a second sharp high volume move of 3-5 points and, again, a second sideways period of 5-10 minutes. Finally, a third push up of 3-5 points. After this activity, the market generally would just work a relatively narrow range the rest of the day, as surprised traders tried to see where the new supports and resistance levels were located.

But, in June 2003, once the S&P moved above the 1000 S&P level, these three spurt moves seemed to get fewer and farther between. Finally, they disappeared altogether. That is until the last two weeks or so. I have again been seeing the three spurt moves accompanied by the characteristic high volume pops, too.

Could the PPT be at it again? Who knows, I certainly can only guess and everyone that might be responsible will, as before, firmly deny the PPT even exists. But, one believer in the PPT, besides me, is the grandfather of this analyst writing business, Mr. Richard Russell. He hasn’t said anything so far this time around, but he was a good sounding board and a strong advocate in the 2003 period that there was PPT. Wonder what he would be saying these days? Hmmm.

Well, just thought you might like to know that in these days of high volatility, there may well be a secret group sort of watching over things — at least to this analyst’s view of things. Wonder if their activities might even determine the final direction of the current churning. Fascinating!

So, for this week, that’s all from my desk. Do hope your coming investing week is a good one. In the meantime, you keep in touch. I do! See you next week.

My guess on tomorrow is as of right now asia looks like its tanking which wont help and then we got GE earning an hour before the bell so if GE disappoints then maybe we fall more. Also wasn't everyone already expecting IBM to do good on earnings isn't that why we had the one good day this week. I mean i feel like we are super oversold too but i have been hearing everyone say that we are oversold all week and we keep falling. Sorry to hear about everyone losing money kinda funny cause this is probably the best two weeks i have had.

This is the message on SPWR MB, put here FYI.

Re: Why SPWR is worth $25/share. No more. 17-Jan-08 08:07 pm Valuing SPWR like a semiconductor company.

INTC has gross margins of 50% Operating margins of 20%
SPWR has gross margins of 20% operating margins of 4%

INTC sells for a PSR of 3.15. Awarding SPWR a PSR of DOUBLE of where INTC is would be very generous - correct ? Awarding SPWR the same PS as INTC - [a "kicker" for growing at a much faster clip, and assuming that SPWR's margins will double from where they are now] yields a market value of over $2 Billion - divided by 85M shares = $25.

Normally, semis with gross margins of 20% sell for a market value of less than 1x sales.

In other words, I was being very generous to SPWR in my calculations.

I also did a discounted cash flow analysis and ended up with a market value of no higher than a BILLION - since DCF analysis depends a LOT on cash flows - which are currently NEGATIVE for SPWR.

    Now this is funny:

Approaching his second anniversary at the helm of the U.S. central bank, Bernanke found himself mistaken for Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson during a hearing in Congress today.

``Seeing as how you were the former CEO of Goldman Sachs,'' Representative Marcy Kaptur, a Democrat from Ohio, began to say before the Fed chief interjected.

``No, you're confusing me with the Treasury secretary,'' Bernanke said at the House Budget Committee hearing. Paulson was the chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. before joining the Treasury in 2006.

``I got the wrong firm?'' asked Kaptur, 61, who is serving her 13th term and represents northern Ohio's ninth Congressional district.

    ``Yes,'' replied Bernanke.

``Paulson. Oh, OK. Where were you, sir?''

``I was a CEO of the Princeton Economics Department,'' Bernanke replied to laughter from the hearing room. Bernanke, 54, chaired the economics department at the Ivy League university before becoming a Fed governor in 2002. He later headed the White House Council of Economic Advisers, becoming Fed chairman in February 2006.
  • Docqb · 1 year ago
How paradoxical, so now we see the problem, he's never been the CEO of anything but has this fantasy that he's foisting on the economy, and screwing everything up in the process....that's great.....

You are worse than I am in that your definition of long term is anything more than 1 hour.

You had said the same for JASO, VMW, FSLR, etc....

    Give us the real deal.

    hehehehehehe

i just bought a little bit of JASO for the longer term, and definitely for the split run. I should have bought yesterday. oh well.

Gotta go.. see ya in awhile.

I love overnite daytrades , even though i'm kinda cautious in this market. The analyst who downgraded SPWR, i'm gonna neuter that dog when i find him. lol. Had he not done that, we could have made some decent money this morning on the stock.
  • beanieville · 1 year ago
Note i bought some solars today not because i think they are going higher. More than likely they are going lower. But since nobody can time the market bottom consistently, i want to nibble on the way down. Just 1/3 positions for now.
  • Mike · 1 year ago
I think SOLF is a screaming buy once the market calms down. This article points out the stocks FPE is a ridiculously low 2.6

    http://seekingalpha.com/article/60489-some-sola...
  • bjc · 1 year ago
It's only because that moron is using figures that are denominated in RMB. You need to multiply that by 7.5 to get the real forward PE, which is still very low. CSIQ's forward PE is 10-15..

Respect lost for seekingalpha.com when bs like that makes it on there. Is it just a blog type deal where nobody really checks the factuality?

I am suicidal...not really, but jesus. I have lost more in the first 2 weeks of 08 than I ever have in any period of time.
